PNR Status Codes Explained

Every GDS PNR segment carries a two-letter status code — HK, HL, HX, and more. Here's what each one actually means, in plain English.

These codes largely follow shared industry conventions used across GDS platforms, though a handful of codes are specific to certain systems (noted below). If you're not certain what a code means in your own PNR, paste it into the free converter and the parser will label each segment's status for you automatically.

HK
Holds Confirmed
The segment is confirmed. This is the status you want to see on every segment before ticketing.
HL
On Request, Waitlisted
The segment is waitlisted — requested but not yet confirmed by the airline.
HN
Have Need / Requested
A request has been sent to the airline and confirmation is pending.
HX
Have Cancelled
The segment has been cancelled, either by the agent or automatically.
KK
Confirming
Confirmation has been received from the airline for a previously requested segment.
KL
Confirmed From Waitlist
A previously waitlisted segment has cleared and is now confirmed.
NN

A new request has been submitted; the airline has not yet responded.
NO
No Action Taken
The request was received but no action has been taken on it yet.
PN

The airline was unable to accommodate the request and the segment has been cancelled.
